The author really breaks down how to start crocheting for beginners by providing suggestions on how to pick a hook and yarn and lets you know all the materials you need to get started. The author suggested buying a kit in the beginning and I agree that makes a lot of sense- as the author states there are so many hooks and yarn to choose from and I agree it can be so overwhelming with all the choices! I also appreciated that the author went over what the abbreviations are and how to read stitch patterns. The pictures were wonderful both to learn how to do each step (followed with detailed descriptions in writing) as well as to share some of the many projects one can do once they get started crocheting.
